Welcome to Klein-Kronenburg!
We’re glad you’ve chosen to stay with us and use Klein-Kronenburg as your home base in Paramaribo. Located on the edge of the historic city center and close to essential amenities, our location offers convenience, safety, and comfort for all our guests.
Why Klein-Kronenburg?
• Central location: Within 100 meters you’ll find a supermarket, a quality butcher, an ATM (at the gas station), and the Surinamese Bank. The Academic Hospital is just 200 meters away.
• Accessibility: The city center is easily reachable in 10 minutes by bike, taxi, car, or bus. The bus stops right in front of the property and generally runs every 10 minutes.
Safety & Comfort
Your safety is our priority:
• All homes are equipped with security bars (visible or built-in), European locks, and secured windows or shutters.
• The premises are well-lit and monitored with security cameras.
• Always keep doors and windows securely closed, even when leaving for a short while. This is also due to tropical rain showers, which can be extremely heavy and may cause damage.
• If you’re at home and have windows or doors open, always keep the security bars closed.
• If you return after 10:00 PM, please make sure to close the central gate.
Hygiene: A Must in the Tropics!
The warm climate requires extra attention to hygiene:
• Keep the kitchen clean and remove food scraps promptly to prevent pests.
• Store sweet items in the fridge to deter insects.
• Small lizards (“kamrawintji”) may be present in the house. They are harmless and eat mosquitoes. They were originally brought from Indonesia for this purpose.
• If the downstairs apartment door is left open all day, unexpected guests like a mouse or iguana may enter. This is part of life in the Surinamese outdoors, so please keep it in mind.
• Properly seal garbage bags and only place them at the streetlamp on the designated pickup days. This can be done from the afternoon onward. Ask for current pickup days upon arrival, as they may change frequently.
Sustainability
To protect the environment and keep costs under control:
• Ensure taps are tightly closed and fans/lights are switched off when leaving a room.
• Use water sparingly. Water pressure in Suriname is often low, so we use water tanks with hydrophore pumps to guarantee pressure.
• Use shared equipment with care. For example, do not overload the washing machine, as this may cause damage and reduce its lifespan.
• Treat all kitchen appliances and furniture with care and respect.
• Shoes are not allowed indoors. The floors are sensitive to sand, which can cause permanent damage.
Practical Information & House Rules
• Smoking: Not allowed inside the house.
• Bedding: Upon arrival, each person receives two sets of bed linen per bed. These must be returned clean and stain-free upon departure. Irremovable stains or damage will result in deductions from the deposit.
• Keys: Lost keys will result in replacement charges for both keys and locks, as certified locks must be used.
• Noise nuisance: Please be considerate of other guests and avoid causing disturbance. Repeated complaints may result in termination of the rental agreement without refund.
• Water and electricity: Use water and electricity consciously. The rent includes up to 1m³ of water per person per week. Extra usage will be charged but is usually more than sufficient.
• Hydrophore system: Water is supplied via a hydrophore pump. If a toilet keeps running or the hydrophore keeps running, please contact us immediately. If the motor burns out, water supply will stop. A continuously running toilet can also quickly empty the tank.
• Damage: Report any damage immediately to the property manager. Unauthorized repairs or unreported damage may lead to additional charges.
